The Top Health clients is hiring a designer to design a lighting plan for the new complex being built in West Haven, CT. The goal of this project is to provide a welcoming and pleasant environment for the residents of this new complex, while also having adequate lighting to perform various tasks throughout the space. Calculations of all the spaces and the use of the IES’s recommended light levels will be the foundation needed to help reach this goal. This will also aid in the process of choosing lighting fixtures. Other goals include sustainability, acoustical solutions, and visual comfort. The use of renewable and low emitting VOC’s materials will take priority when necessary, and various features such as motion sensing and dimmers will be incorporated throughout the space.

Acoustical solutions are another goal for this complex, and this will be emphasized in the choice and placement of lighting fixtures. Visual comfort is important since many residents have health issues, so the quantity and quilting of lighting fixtures will be highly researched. Throughout the whole space, a feeling of order and clean atmosphere should also be emphasized. The patient rooms, the space should have a more individual touch to them but also sticking to the main goal and a good selection of task, decorative, ambient/natural lighting should be used to create a welcoming and pleasant environment for everyone to enjoy. Overall, the goal of this project is to maximize the use of lighting and to address sustainability, acoustical solutions, and visual comfort.
